Jihua Zhanghuang Liberation Memorial Hall
The Shijiazhuang Liberation Memorial Hall immerses visitors in the dramatic events of 1947, when the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Field Army captured Shijiazhuang. The architectural complex blends modern technology with traditional Chinese design elements, using advanced audio, lighting, and projection techniques to create a powerful panoramic depiction of the battle. At the heart of the exhibition, life-sized replicas of trenches and barricades—enhanced by holographic projections—recreate the intense moments of the city assault, allowing visitors to experience the revolutionary spirit amid the smoke and thunder of war through interactive installations. The museum is divided into three thematic sections: “Strategic Decision,” “The Fierce Battle of Zhengtai,” and “Breaking Through the City Defenses.” It houses over 200 precious artifacts, including a pocket watch once owned by Dong Zhentang (Commander of the Red Fifth Corps) and wartime diaries handwritten by Nie Rongzhen (Chairman of the People’s Republic of China). Particularly moving is the “Wall of People’s Heroes,” engraved with the names of 57 martyrs—a tribute representing countless unnamed heroes who gave their lives for the cause. The “Dawn of Victory” multimedia theater further brings history to life, using dynamic visuals to portray the heartfelt celebrations of liberated citizens, highlighting the profound bond between the army and the people. This 23-hour battle not only liberated a key city in North China but also marked the first time the People’s Liberation Army successfully seized a heavily fortified urban center. Through its solemn and reverent atmosphere, the memorial hall conveys the enduring spirit of revolution, inviting visitors to reflect on the hard-won peace forged through sacrifice.
