Xinhua Du Shopping Plaza is situated in the heart of Zhangzhou Ancient City and stands as the first integrated commercial and cultural experience complex in southern Fujian. Blending vibrant local charm with contemporary trendiness, it has become a new urban landmark. The building’s exterior incorporates traditional southern Fujian elements—red bricks and gray tiles—while corridors are adorned with lanterns shaped like Zhangzhou narcissus flowers and puppets’ masks from Zhangzhou puppet theater, transforming traditional craftsmanship into modern aesthetic symbols.
Its core attraction lies in the “Three Streets and One Market” layout: the Minnan Snack Street gathers century-old establishments such as Zhao’s Rouyuan (founded by a Qing dynasty master chef) and Cai’s Peanut Soup, filling the air with enticing aromas and lively bustle; the trendy pop-up market showcases collectible figurines of Zhangzhou puppet characters and shell jewelry from Dongshan Island, drawing young visitors for photo opportunities; and the high-end brand zone features glass façades that reflect the ancient cityscape, creating a dialogue between past and present.
Inside the plaza, the “Zhangzhou Memories” Cultural Corridor uses holographic projections to recreate historical scenes of Zheng Chenggong—a military leader from the late Ming to early Qing dynasties—reclaiming Taiwan. Poems and inscriptions depicting the “Eight Scenic Views of Zhangzhou” are engraved on the walls, allowing visitors to connect with the city’s cultural heritage even while shopping. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the plaza revives the traditional custom of “gifting mooncakes,” breathing new life into age-old celebrations. More than just a commercial space, this building functions as a living museum of Zhangzhou culture, where everyday urban vitality and historical depth converge in perfect harmony.
