Yun Dong Yan is located on the shores of Dongshan Bay in Zhangzhou, a fusion of coastal erosion landforms and human history. Its most stunning sight is the “Sea Erosion Cave Group,” where the tides surge and recede, the caves swallowing and spitting out waves, and the cliff walls are adorned with bizarre stalactites that shimmer with a bluish-green light in the sunlight, like solidified waves. The dense clusters of cliff-side grotto carvings span across millennia, from the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, with inscriptions like “Sea and Sky as One” by Ming Dynasty calligrapher Li Mengyang, with powerful brushstrokes and echoing with the sound of the tides.
