Chuzhou Grand Theatre stands like a cultural gem set upon eastern Anhui, where sleek, flowing architectural forms blend harmoniously with traditional Huizhou-style elements, creating an aesthetic dialogue between past and present. Designed with world-class acoustics, the theatre features a starry dome ceiling whose ambient lighting shifts hues with each performance. Its 2,000-seat auditorium wraps around the stage in a circular layout, immersing audiences in a whirlwind of artistry. Every year-end, the venue transforms into a luminous stage for locally produced original productions such as "Langya Chronicles," reimagining Ouyang Xiu’s—renowned Northern Song dynasty writer—famous phrase, “The old drunkard’s true delight lies not in wine,” on the modern stage.
On the third floor, the specially designed "Drunken翁 Cultural Corridor" uses holographic projections to vividly recreate Ouyang Xiu’s joyful interactions with local citizens during his time in Chuzhou. A meticulously reproduced manuscript of his celebrated "Record of the Drunken翁 Pavilion" glows softly within a glass display case. Meanwhile, the "Eastern Anhui Intangible Heritage Workshop" on the basement level regularly hosts workshops on Hui opera mask painting and Langya guqin performances, where master artisans’ nimble fingers quietly channel millennia of cultural heritage. Since its inauguration in 2018, this cultural landmark has not only become a vibrant hub for contemporary performing arts but also innovatively continues Chuzhou’s historic legacy of literary excellence—turning every performance into a transcendent cultural conversation across time.
