Yanhu Park, located in Ouhai District of Wenzhou, is a rare ecological oasis within the city. Centered around the shimmering Yanhu Lake, whose mirror-like surface reflects the surrounding verdant hills and ancient temples, the park offers ever-changing scenery throughout the seasons: spring bursts with vibrant blossoms, while autumn paints the forests in rich hues. The interplay of lake, mountains, and millennium-old temples creates a living landscape painting. Winding waterside trails connect multiple ecological attractions within the park. The tree-shaded island at the lake’s center is an ideal spot for birdwatching and admiring lotus flowers, while a secluded bamboo path leads to a hilltop viewing platform, offering panoramic views of the city below and evoking the exhilarating spirit of “standing atop the highest peak.” The park also preserves the ruins of Chongfu Temple, originally built during the Southern Song Dynasty. Its upturned eaves harmonize beautifully with the natural scenery, and within its grounds lie Song-era stone carvings and Ming-Qing steles that silently narrate a thousand years of Buddhist heritage. Once a favored retreat for poets and scholars, the site inspired Ming dynasty literary figure Wang Shen Zhong to compose his famous quatrain “Mist and Rain over Yanhu Lake,” and Qing dynasty painter Ren Yi created numerous ink paintings capturing the lake’s serene beauty. As Wenzhou’s urban green lung, Yanhu Park not only boasts rich biodiversity but also carries profound historical resonance. In the early morning mist, one often encounters villagers picking tea leaves alongside locals practicing tai chi or jogging. The mingling sounds of temple bells and birdsong weave a tranquil yet vibrant ecological tapestry—a peaceful sanctuary where city dwellers can find solace amidst urban clamor.
