Black Tiger Spring
Huhu Spring, one of Jinan’s most celebrated natural wonders, features a unique three-tiered waterfall where water cascades from north to south in graceful layers. The gentle murmur of the falling water harmonizes with the rustling of pine trees, creating a serene atmosphere that has long inspired poets and scholars. During the Ming Dynasty, geographer Liu E once studied the spring's underground channels here and coined the term "Three Gushing Holes" to describe its remarkable flow. On the eastern side of the pool stands the "Viewing the Waves Pavilion," where a wooden plaque inscribed with the characters "Viewing the Waves" by the renowned poet Li Panlong still hangs from the beam—testament to the vibrant literary gatherings that once filled this place over 400 years ago. Around the spring, you'll find Song Dynasty stone carvings and Ming-era stele forests, each engraved with verses from officials and literati through the centuries. These inscriptions, like golden relics, carry forward the enduring cultural legacy of Jinan as the “City of Springs.” More than just a scenic marvel, Huhu Spring is a living museum of Jinan’s rich water culture. As the water surges forth, visitors can almost hear Li Bai’s awe-struck exclamation—"Could this be the Milky Way tumbling from heaven?"—and feel Li Qingzhao’s melancholic longing—"Searching, searching, seeking." It invites every traveler to pause, reflect, and connect with history, experiencing the timeless charm of a city where mountains meet springs.
