A Botanical Garden at the Sui-Tang City Ruins is located on Dragon Mountain West in Luoyang, integrating site preservation, ecological gardens, and human landscape features. In spring, a sea of peonies blooms like clouds and mist, while in autumn, chrysanthemum displays gleam with gold. Throughout the changing seasons, the ancient buildings’ curved eaves and blossoming shadows create a poetic space, inviting visitors to “wander within a painting.” The core scenic area includes the Peony Garden, Chrysanthemum Terrace, Ancient Building Group, Bamboo Forest Secret Realm, and Water System Landscape. The Peony Garden gathers nine color systems and over a thousand varieties, including Wei Zi (White Peony) and Yao Huang (Yellow Peony), with renowned cultivars in full bloom, while peony poems by generations of poets are inscribed along the flower paths, featuring Li Bai’s famous line, “Peonies are beautiful, swallows come to fly.” The Chrysanthemum Terrace is set against a backdrop of cliffs and waterfalls, with golden chrysanthemums and green chrysanthemums swaying in the autumn breeze, while the Northern Song literary figure, Ouyang Xiu, was captivated here. The Ancient Building Group is reconstructed in the Sui-Tang style, with flowering pavilions and corridors with curved eaves linking historical narratives, and the inscription “Country Color, Heavenly Fragrance” written by Emperor Huizong of the Northern Song Dynasty remains.
