Quanzhou Huaqiao Mansion
Quanzhou Huaqiao Mansion stands between the East and West Towers, based on Minnan red brick and white stone architecture, with soaring cusped eaves adorned with cloud carvings, and intricately inlaid Chowzhou wood carvings and Dehua white porcelain between the pillars. It consolidates the thousand-year Maritime Silk Road culture within a small space. The building, completed in 1993, was originally built with donations from overseas Chinese, carrying the commercial genes of "the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road." Its designer, Lin Ke-ming [Modern Architect], skillfully incorporated Quanzhou’s “three carvings and one sculpture” crafts. The octagonal pool in the courtyard is pieced together with gold foil using the *jian-ni* technique, reflecting the prosperity of Quanzhou as “the first great port in the East” during the Song and Yuan dynasties. Walking through it, you can touch the maritime merchants’ legacy of Zheng Chenggong’s recovery of Taiwan during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, and you can also encounter the cultural transmission of Li Guangyi overseeing the compilation of *Zhu Zi Quan Shu* during the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty. Every granite floor tile is engraved with the footprints of overseas Chinese everywhere, and every carved window lattice tells the story of the thousand-year maritime silk road’s commercial charm.
