Longji Rice Terraces
Longji Rice Terraces are renowned as “Earth Sculptures” throughout the world, representing a thousand-year agricultural miracle carved by Zhuang ancestors in the karst landform. The layered terraces resemble a vast, monumental ink wash painting; during the morning mist, they appear like rolling clouds, and during the harvest season, they resemble gold spread out, with the most stunning views being at dawn’s first light (“Thousand Layer Gold Foil”) and dusk’s embrace (“Ten Thousand Layer Azure Blue”). The scenic area is divided into two core regions: Jinan Village and Ping’an Village, the former known as “Longji,” with the ridge line resembling a dragon winding through the landscape, scattered among the terraces are groups of Zhuang houses with hanging legs, smoke and rice fragrance intertwining to create a picture of Zhuang rural life; the latter known as “Ping’an,” the terraces wind along the mountain’s contours, rice paddies reflecting ancient trees and birds, like a fairyland.
