Bi Gan Miao
A Memorial Temple to the Loyal Official Bi Gan is located in Xinxiang City, dedicated to commemorating Bi Gan, a loyal official of the Shang Dynasty. The red walls and green tiles harmonize with the ancient cypresses, creating a rich historical atmosphere. The core area focuses on Bi Gan’s tomb, with stone monuments recording the veneration and inscriptions of countless scholars and writers. The ancient cypresses, particularly the “Bi Gan Cypress,” are covered in cracks, said to be formed by Bi Gan’s spirit, each crack etched with unwavering will. Bi Gan died for directly advising King Zhou, and King Wu of Zhou honored him as “the leader of loyal officials.” Confucius praised him as one of the “Three Virtuous Men.” His integrity inspired later generations, including Wen Tianxiang and Yue Fei. Sima Qian detailed his story in “Records of the Grand Historian.” This site is not only a witness to the Shang and Zhou dynasties but also a timeless monument to the “scholar” spirit of Chinese civilization, with every brick and tile telling a magnificent epic of loyalty and righteousness.
