Dongguan Street is one of the best-preserved historical districts in Yangzhou, with Ming and Qing Dynasty architecture built along the river. Intricate carvings and two hundred years of “naxiao” (local atmosphere) can be seen through the window lattices. It houses famous old shops like “Fuchun Tea Society” and “Yichun Garden,” where the flavors of Huaiyang cuisine and the legacy of salt merchants intertwine. In the morning, the tea houses echo with the sounds of opera, and in the evening, stalls selling jade and antiques gather at the street corners. Every brick and tile tells a story of time.
