Yushan, the highest peak in Jiangxi Province at an elevation of 1,892 meters, towers over Guangfeng District in Shangrao City and serves as a natural barrier in northeastern Jiangxi. Renowned for its "Three Wonders"—sea of clouds, pine forest symphonies, and uniquely shaped peaks—the mountain transforms into a fairyland at dawn, when light mist veils the ridges, rendering them mysteriously half-visible. The rhythmic rustling of pines harmonizes with mountain breezes, composing a natural symphony, while jagged rock formations and extraordinary peaks rise among the trees like swords piercing the sky, captivating every visitor.
From the summit, one can overlook surging seas of clouds and gaze far into the distance at the Wuyi and Huaiyu mountain ranges, experiencing the grandeur expressed in the poetic line: “All lesser peaks appear small beneath your feet.”
The core of the scenic area encompasses Yushan’s main peak and nine surrounding summits. Among them, Yünu Peak (Jade Maiden Peak) is famed for its sheer cliffs and cloud-wreathed summit, traditionally believed to be where the Jade Maiden once practiced alchemy. Ancient trails wind through the mountains, revealing thousand-year-old pines, primeval forests, and rare flora and fauna along the way—offering hikers the ethereal experience of “treading clouds in search of tranquility.” Revered as the “Roof of East China,” Yushan is also a premier stargazing destination; on clear nights, the Milky Way spills across the heavens like a cascade of stars, leaving viewers spellbound.
Since ancient times, Yushan has inspired poets and scholars. The Southern Song dynasty patriot and poet Wen Tianxiang once paused here, leaving behind the stirring verse: “From lofty Yushan I gaze upon the land of China.” Ruins of ancient temples and cliffside inscriptions scattered throughout the mountain silently recount centuries of cultural heritage, seamlessly blending natural splendor with human spirit—a sight that evokes both awe and yearning.
