A natural epic transcending time and space, the Shanghai Natural History Museum embarks visitors on a journey of scientific discovery through awe-inspiring dinosaur skeletons and a starry dome ceiling. Five thematic exhibition zones within the museum form a multidimensional framework for understanding nature: in the Paleontology Hall, a colossal Diplodocus skeleton towers like a mountain, its bones interspersed with fossil specimens that whisper the evolutionary secrets of 200 million years ago; the "Miracle of Life" zone brings the wonders of deep-sea hydrothermal vents vividly to life through 4D imaging technology, complemented by interactive touch devices that immerse visitors in the exploration of life’s origins. Beneath the celestial dome, mechanical planetary models transform abstract astronomical concepts into a visually stunning, tactile experience.
Originally established in 1931 as the Shanghai Museum of Natural History, this cultural and educational institution has undergone three relocations and expansions. The current building seamlessly blends Art Deco architectural elements with innovative modern science museum design. In the "Story of Earth" exhibit, geological phenomena described in Mengxi Bitan (Dream Pool Essays) by Shen Kuo—a scientist of the Song Dynasty—are recreated through holographic projections, engaging in a dialogue across centuries with the geological mechanics theories proposed by Li Siguang, a renowned modern geologist. The specially curated "Eastern Wisdom" section showcases China’s profound understanding of natural laws through interactive installations based on the traditional Twenty-Four Solar Terms and ancient craftsmanship.
The Children’s Discovery Center features a "Nature Lab" equipped with 3D printing technology, enabling young scientists to build ecological models with their own hands. Meanwhile, the "Eco-Wonders" gallery presents a living vertical garden wall composed of over 400 rare plant species, embodying the timeless theme of symbiosis between humanity and nature. Here, every exhibit serves as a key unlocking the mysteries of the universe, and every pause invites reflection on the essence of life itself.
