A temple located in Qufu, Shandong, dating back to 478 BC, it is a thousand-year-old sacred site for worshipping Confucius. Covering over 400 acres, the existing architectural complex is symmetrically arranged along a central axis, with red walls and yellow tiles contrasting beautifully with ancient pines and cypresses. The key highlights include the “Xin Tian” – Confucius’s teaching site, with towering ancient pines and stone tablets; the “Da Cheng Dian” – a nine-bay hall with a glazed tile roof, housing a wooden sculpture of Confucius, and stone steps before the hall symbolizing “step by step advancement”; and the “Bei Lin” – collecting over 2000 square feet of inscriptions from the Tang, Song, and Republic of China dynasties, including the handwriting of renowned figures such as Yan Zhenqing, Su Shi, and Zhao Mengfu.
