Nestled on the banks of the Lancang River, the Dai Ethnic Village is the most vibrant ethnic landscape in Yunnan’s border region. Bamboo houses are built along the hillside, with weathered bamboo walls and rattan hammocks appearing and disappearing in the morning mist, the aroma of rice wine and fragrant grass drifts from the hearth, sketching a picture of Dai people’s life. Every April, during the Pisu Festival, the village transforms into a joyful ocean, young men and women chase and play with water guns, the sound of silver ornaments tinkling, the peacock dancers perform the legend of “Zhutun” with graceful postures, and the fluttering fans seem to see the love story of the Dai prince and princess for a thousand years.
