Shijiu Hu
Shijiu Hu, a jade-like gem embedded in the Zhaozhou landscape, boasts crystal-clear waters winding alongside verdant mountains. This is a rare ecological wetland in eastern China, home to flocks of white egrets that glide across the surface, creating ripples and appearing as dynamic figures in a watercolor painting. Navigating by boat, the ripples from the oars reveal layers of green, and the reeds sway in the wind, creating the illusion of being in a Jiangnan rain. The island in the center of the lake is densely vegetated, adorned with wildflowers, a natural sanctuary for bird breeding, and each spring and autumn, migratory bird flocks gather like tidal waves, painting a dynamic poem across the sky. - This water area has been an ecological treasure since ancient times, known as "Shijiu" during the Qin and Han dynasties. Due to the clear waters and the rocky formations resembling mortars, it earned its name. Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai once sailed on it, composing a verse, "Shijiu Hu Guang Jie Yuan Kong," which is still engraved on a stone monument by the lake. The lakeside ancient village retains the traditions of fishermen, wooden boats navigate between stone bridges, and the songs of fishermen tell stories of a thousand-year-old water town. In spring, one can admire water lilies blooming, in autumn, one can observe reeds turning golden, in winter, one can watch migratory birds returning to their nests, and each season presents a different scene. The lake is home to a unique species of fish called "Shijiu Yu" due to the purity of the water.
