Zayeiba Temple
Zayeiba Temple is located on a cliff face outside the outskirts of Lhasa, suspended between heaven and earth like a Buddhist kingdom. Here, with the rugged mountain landscape as its base, a thousand-year-old temple perfectly blends with natural wonders, serving as the spiritual sanctuary for Tibetan Buddhist practitioners. The stone steps within the temple wind like a dragon, the prayer paths spiral along the cliff face, and every step is taken within the echoes of a thousand years. The murals in the main hall are painted with mineral pigments, with flying figures and Buddha statues whispering in the mottled light, telling of Tibetan Buddhism's cosmology and reincarnation philosophy. The stupas stand tall, reflecting the light of faith, with a quiet solemnity that exudes eternal grandeur. As the birthplace of the Kagyu school, Zayeiba Temple carries the “Handprint” practice tradition established by Milarepa, a renowned Indian Buddhist monk. Legend says that practitioners must meditate here for nine years, with the cliff face as their bed and the cold wind as their companion, ultimately breaking through the boundaries of life and death. Hidden caves within the temple still show the marks of past practitioners, as if solidified meditation imprints. This is not only a religious site but also the perfect fusion of Tibetan culture and natural forces, with every stone wall engraved with questions about life and eternity. As the dusk dyes the mountain peaks red, the entire temple transforms into a floating lantern, illuminating all pilgrims seeking a spiritual home.
