The Yuanzhongdu Site, located in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, was the former capital of the Yuan Dynasty. The site features remains of rammed earth walls, palace foundations, and sacrificial platforms, with the “Yuanzhongdu Site” being particularly impressive. Its layout combines the palace regulations of the Central Plains with Mongolian nomadic culture, reflecting the Yuan Dynasty’s “rule based on customs” approach. Remnants of the city wall resemble a dragon coiled, and the rammed earth layers reveal traces of Yuan Dynasty bricks and Han Dynasty architectural elements, illustrating the deep integration of Mongolian and Chinese civilizations.
