Kaifeng Fu
As the political center of the Northern Song Dynasty, Kaifeng Prefecture is renowned for its well-preserved complex of government offices and its rich Bao Gong (Bao Zheng) cultural heritage, earning it the nickname "Venice of the East." The scenic area primarily features Song-style architecture, where gray bricks and dark-tiled roofs exude an ancient charm spanning over a thousand years. The main administrative buildings are meticulously arranged according to the official architectural standards of the Northern Song era, with elegant upturned eaves and intricate bracket sets. Particularly striking is the reconstructed scene of the "Case of Zhan Mei" displayed inside the Bao Gong Temple, which vividly brings to life the legendary incorruptibility of Judge Bao through dynamic sculptures and lighting effects. The core attractions include the Bao Gong Temple, Longting Park, and the Prefectural Office Complex. Inside the Bao Gong Temple, visitors can view authentic Song-era official seals and judicial instruments, along with a clearly legible stele inscription on integrity personally written by Bao Zheng—a celebrated Northern Song statesman. Longting Park preserves the original layout of an imperial Song garden, where pavilions and terraces offer views of the ancient Bian River ruins. Within the Prefectural Office Complex, the hexagonal pavilion and council hall use immersive projection technology to recreate scenes of Bao Gong presiding over court cases; visitors can even participate in an interactive "Mock Trial" experience to learn about ancient judicial procedures. As the administrative heart of the Northern Song capital, Kaifeng Prefecture witnessed the governance strategies of Emperor Renzong and influential statesmen like Wen Yanbo. The legacy of Bao Gong has evolved into a powerful symbol of the "honest-official spirit," with his principle that "the people are paramount" profoundly influencing later generations and becoming a key emblem of Central Plains culture. Throughout the site, statues of Bao Gong and slogans promoting integrity seamlessly blend historical memory with contemporary values, immersing every visitor in the grandeur of a millennium-old civilization.
