Kangding Qingtong Gwangchao
Located in the outskirts of Kangding, Sichuan, this square is a brilliant gem where Tibetan and Han cultures blend. Inspired by the film "Kangding Qingtong," a 15-meter-high giant sculpture, “The Beginning of Love,” depicts Tibetan youth and Han girls embracing, capturing a timeless moment from the movie. The sculpture’s base features relief carvings of “Sangye Flowers,” symbolizing Tibetan happiness, which harmoniously complements the surrounding Tibetan-style buildings with red walls and golden pagodas. The square’s core area includes a musical fountain system, which, at dusk, uses the melody of “Kangding Qingtong” to create heart-shaped and prayer flag patterns with water jets. A cultural corridor displays over 200 Tibetan wedding artifacts, including sheepskin drums, silver headdresses, and thangka murals, narrating ancient love beliefs. On the east side of the square, the “Qingtong Museum” preserves 27 original manuscripts of Kangding folk songs collected by Wang Leping, [Folk Music Composer], with “Qingtong” lyrics presented in Tibetan and Han languages, witnessing the birth of this classic folk song. This land was once an important stop on the Tea-Horse Road, and Zanpu Songtsan Gambo [Patriarch of the Tibetan Empire] once married Princess Wencun [Tang Dynasty Princess], leaving behind the legend of “Kangding Qingtong.” On the west side of the square, “Qingchen Valley” retains the appearance of a primitive pastoral area, allowing visitors to experience Tibetan wedding ceremonies and feel the romantic sentiment of “Love is like the sea, beginning on the plateau.” As dusk falls, the fluttering prayer flags and the melody of “Kangding Qingtong” transform this land into an eternal love sanctuary.
