Shuanglin Temple is located in the western city wall of Pingyao Ancient City, built during the Yuan Dynasty, expanded into a Buddhist holy land in the Ming Dynasty, and is the most complete Ming Dynasty colorful sculpture art hall in Jinzhong. The current exhibition area within the temple consists of over 1500 colorful mud-brick statues, with the Great Buddha Hall, Bodhisattva Hall, and Thousand Buddha Hall as the core areas. Each mud-brick statue is meticulously sculpted with delicate techniques, using cinnabar to highlight the eyebrows, lips, and teeth. The wrathful and wide-eyed appearance of the Vayu image [Ming Dynasty General] and the compassionate posture of the Thousand-Hand Thousand-Eye Bodhisattva are particularly striking.
