Taichung Civic Plaza is a city living room integrating modern art and humanistic spirit, becoming Taichung’s most vibrant landmark. The central “City of Light” installation art, with its flowing metal structure, responds to Taichung’s “Fengyuan” imagery. At night, the light show transforms with the music, turning the entire plaza into an immersive light and shadow theater. A ring-shaped walkway is flanked by 12 themed sculptures, ranging from indigenous cultural symbols to contemporary art pieces, showcasing the city’s diverse cultural texture. Every Friday evening’s street music festival attracts over a thousand participants, with folk music, jazz, and improvisation creating a unique rhythm. The “Citizen Dialogue Wall” on the north side of the plaza features a movable modular design, allowing citizens to change and paint graffiti content at any time, becoming a living record of urban public discussion. The architectural complex retains the original Qing Dynasty warehouse facade, forming a dialogue between the modern glass curtain wall, reflecting Taichung’s century-long industrial transformation history. The plaza regularly hosts “City Memories” themed exhibitions, recreating Taichung’s urban changes from the Japanese occupation to the present day through images and objects.
