Lijiang Dongba Culture Museum is a living temple for exploring the Naxi people's thousand-year civilization. The museum houses the Dongba writing system, which is acclaimed as “the world’s only living pictographic writing system,” interwoven with the bloodline of Naxi culture and its mysterious rhythms, forming a spectacle of human civilization. Entering the museum, you are greeted by long scrolls of Dongba writing drawn with gold powder, showcasing the dynamic beauty of pictographic writing. The ancient scriptures, such as the “Dongba Classic,” handwritten copies, flow with wisdom between the yellowed pages. The core exhibition area, “Dongba Classic Secret Realm,” gathers over 2000 volumes of books, including “Genesis” and “Demon Banishing Classic,” which depict mythological epics through colorful illustrations and pictographic symbols. The sacrificial object display area, with its bronze instruments and wooden idols, tells the story of the Dongba religion’s cosmology. The interactive experience area allows you to handwrite Dongba characters and experience the craftsmanship of “Dongba paper” production.
