Danyang Lake, located in Mashan City, Anhui Province, is the largest freshwater lake in East China, with vast, shimmering waters. It’s a treasure of natural scenery and carries a deep historical thread. The expansive lake surface merges with the sky, white egrets dance in the reeds, and presents a poetic landscape in the changing seasons. In spring, the lakeside wetlands are covered in a profusion of flowers, and in autumn, the reeds turn into snow and the fishing boats sing at dusk, creating a picturesque scene. It’s a paradise for photographers and nature explorers. The core scenic area is mainly based on the lakeside ecological corridor, linking Fisherman’s Wharf, Wetland Bird Watching Platform, and Ancient Dam Ruins. Fisherman’s Wharf retains the traditional fishing village appearance, allowing visitors to experience hand-net fishing and taste fresh lake delicacies; the Wetland Bird Watching Platform is an excellent observation point for migratory birds, attracting thousands of migratory birds to reside and breed every year; the Ancient Dam Ruins witness the wisdom of Ming Dynasty water conservancy construction, with ancient inscriptions faintly visible on the Qingstone dam. This water area has always been the inspiration for scholars and artists. Ming Dynasty writer Gui Youliang once cruised and wrote poems here, and Qing Dynasty painter Shi Tao created a famous painting titled “Danyang Lake Mist and Rain.” The legend of “Fishing Boats Singing at Dusk” is passed down by the fishermen’s children, telling of the wisdom of fishermen and nature living in harmony. Today, Danyang Lake not only amazes the world with its ecological beauty, but also continues the unique charm of the Jiangnan water town through its millennium cultural heritage.
