St. Michael’s Church, located on the west side of Taipingjiao Park, is the most complete Gothic architectural exemplar in East Asia. The church is renowned for its deep blue dome and stained glass windows. Sunlight passes through 16 painted glass windows, projecting a flowing feast of light between painted saints and rose windows, seemingly introducing believers into medieval European religious temples. Its twin-towered spire rises into the clouds, with flying buttresses and rib vaults showcasing the beauty of architectural mechanics. The interior spiral stone steps and carved wooden doors further demonstrate exquisite craftsmanship.
