Taiping Old Street
Taiping Old Street is hidden amongst the ancient stone alleyways of Changsha, a living testament to Ming and Qing Hunanese folk architecture. Brick and tile walls create a picturesque arrangement, while carved wooden window lattices emit a warm yellow light, and the stone pavement bears the faded marks of a century of history. The sweet fragrance of lychee cakes and the creamy scent of Tea Yan Yes Color intertwine, transporting visitors back to the bustling streets of old. Along the street, all shops are traditional storefronts, red lanterns hang from wooden window lattices, and the sound of storytelling from old tea houses fills the air. Non-heritage artisans demonstrate traditional paper cutting and bamboo weaving, revitalizing the skills of Hunan craftsmanship. At the corner, an ancient well still flows with clear water, and moss-covered inscriptions record the prosperity of “Taiping Street Market” during the Qing Dynasty. This street was once the base camp of Hunan Army Generals Zongtang (a key figure of the late Qing Dynasty), and his hand-written “Taiping” plaque still hangs at the entrance. During the Qing Dynasty, scholar Wei Yuan (a modern thinker) studied practical knowledge here, and the “Practical and Realistic” stone tablet reflects the essence of Hunan culture. Taiping Old Street is not only a culinary delight, but also a cultural landmark embodying the spirit of “practical and beneficial,” allowing visitors to experience the breath of a thousand-year-old cultural lineage amidst the fragrance of lychee.
