Changchun Liberation Monument stands majestically in the center of People’s Square, interpreting revolutionary spirit with its solemn geometric design. The monument’s base is engraved with the names of important battles from the Liberation War period, while the sculptural groups vividly recreate the heroic figures of soldiers charging into battle. The bronze words “Liberation” shine brilliantly in the sunlight. Ascending to the observation deck at the top of the monument, you can take in the entire city skyline. At night, when the city lights begin to shine, the vibrant architectural complex contrasts sharply with the monument’s solemn atmosphere. The monument’s interior houses a memorial exhibition hall, which, through exhibits and multimedia technology, vividly recreates the heroic years of the 1948 Changchun Siege Battle. The display cabinets contain valuable artifacts such as Chiang Mingren’s (Nationalist General) secret orders and Zhou Baohong’s (Anti-Japanese General) manuscripts, telling the tragic choices of the revolutionaries. The sculpture group on the east side of the square, “Gate of Victory,” symbolizes the triumphant return of the People’s Army, while the copper gear device embedded in the ground represents the inheritance of the revolutionary flame. This building, which carries the weight of history, is both a spiritual beacon for the people of Changchun to remember their heroes and a witness to the city’s dramatic changes. The inscription on the monument’s body, “People’s Heroes Live On Forever,” becomes clearer with the passage of time, reminding people to remember the heroic spirits who sacrificed for national liberation.
