Zhengzhou Museum
The Zhengzhou Museum, located on the southern bank of the Yellow River, is renowned as the "Gene Bank of Central Plains Civilization." Its collection comprises over 200,000 artifacts spanning 5,000 years of Chinese history, including bronzes, Tang and Song dynasty calligraphy and paintings, and Jun ware ceramics—each a vivid thread in the rich tapestry of Chinese civilization. The museum’s “Shang-Zhou Bronze Gallery” showcases rare treasures such as the Lotus and Crane Square Hu vessel. The intricate taotie (monster-mask) and cloud-and-thunder patterns adorning these bronzes reflect ancient peoples’ profound reverence for heaven and earth. In the “Tang-Song Calligraphy and Painting Gallery,” visitors can view a fine replica of Han Xizai’s Night Banquet, whose brushstrokes vividly evoke the grandeur of the High Tang era. The Jun Ware Exhibition Hall presents the iconic "sky-after-rain" glaze, bringing to life the poetic Song dynasty description—"the color of sky after rain breaks through the clouds"—once associated with Ru ware. A special exhibition titled “Zheng and Han Ancient Cities” reconstructs the political landscape of the Spring and Autumn period through artifacts like bronze ding vessels and jade zhang blades. Highlights also include a bronze dagger-axe from the era of Shang Yang—a famed reformer of the Warring States period—and a model of the armillary sphere created by Zhang Heng, the eminent Eastern Han scientist. Together, these objects trace the continuous thread of civilization across the Central Plains. The museum’s digital gallery employs holographic projection technology, allowing visitors to virtually “touch” the carved inscriptions on Shang dynasty oracle bones and experience the dynamic grace of Tang Sancai glazed horses. More than just a repository of relics, the Zhengzhou Museum serves as a decoder of Chinese civilization’s genetic code—each exhibit eloquently narrating Zhengzhou’s profound legacy as a cradle of Chinese culture.
