Zunyi Museum
The Zunyi Municipal Museum stands as a three-dimensional chronicle etched with the civilization of northern Guizhou. Its collection of 12,000 artifacts spans 8,000 years, weaving together the enduring cultural threads of this land. The "Civilization of Northern Guizhou" exhibition opens with Neolithic pottery cauldrons and Shang-Zhou bronze drums, while Han dynasty bamboo slips and Tang dynasty cliff inscriptions bear witness to the rise and fall of this ancient military stronghold. Most striking is the reconstructed site of the Chishui City Wall, originally built under the supervision of Zhao Liangqian, a Ming dynasty military strategist. Entering the "Red Memory" section, relics left by the Red Army and the original manuscript of the Zunyi Conference resolutions serve as historical footnotes. Yellowed telegrams and captured machine gun parts silently recount the pivotal turning point of 1935. The museum’s meticulously recreated "Zunyi Conference Site," enhanced by holographic projection technology, allows visitors to step into the very room where the principle of "seeking truth from facts" was born. In the Folk Culture Gallery, Miao silver ornaments and Gelao Nuo masks shimmer in shifting light and shadow. Meanwhile, the "Red Culture Experience Zone" offers immersive VR simulations that let visitors participate in strategic reenactments of the Four Crossings of the Chishui River campaign. Among the museum’s treasures are fragments of the Ming dynasty *Annals of Zunyi Prefecture* and annotations on Zheng He’s [Ming dynasty maritime explorer] nautical charts marking southwestern trade routes—both testifying to Zunyi’s role as a vital hub on the ancient Tea-Horse Road for over a millennium. More than just a repository of history, the museum serves as a cultural salon transcending time and space, where every artifact becomes a key to unlocking the civilization of northern Guizhou.
