Ganzhou Wanxiang City
Ganzhou MixC, a shining gem in southern Jiangxi, seamlessly blends modern commerce with local cultural heritage under the core concept of “fashionable shopping + cultural immersion.” Its architecture incorporates elements of Hakka walled compounds and horse-head gables, with interplaying light and shadow evoking the profound legacy of Ganzhou’s millennia-old merchant tradition. Inside, the “Song-style Lane” cultural corridor uses holographic projections to vividly recreate the bustling street life of Ganzhou during the Song Dynasty—once hailed as “the premier prefecture south of the Yangtze.” Visitors can don Hanfu attire and partake in tea ceremony experiences, immersing themselves in the legendary trade culture of the Ancient Tea Horse Road. A standout feature is the thoughtful integration of the “Intangible Cultural Heritage Workshop” and the “Gan-flavor Food Street.” In the heritage zone, interactive workshops offer hands-on activities like traditional pottery and oil-paper umbrella making, where guests can personally paint motifs inspired by Hakka walled houses. The food street gathers iconic local delicacies such as Gannan navel oranges and Nan’an duck, alongside a Lei Cha (pounded tea) cultural pavilion showcasing flavors from the hometown of Wen Tianxiang—a famed Southern Song general who resisted the Yuan invasion—allowing visitors to taste history on their tongues. As a landmark of Ganzhou’s urban renewal, MixC offers a contemporary reinterpretation of “merchant guild culture.” Its design draws inspiration from Ganzhou’s historic Song-era commercial layout of “Seven Neighborhoods and Eight Markets,” transforming traditional street-life culture into an immersive retail experience. On the rooftop, the “Memories of Southern Ganzhou” exhibition hall combines artifact replicas with digital technology to narrate historical episodes of Wang Yangming—the Ming Dynasty master of Mind School—who once lectured at Longjing Post in Ganzhou. Here, history breathes anew within a commercial space. More than just a shopping paradise, MixC serves as a dynamic cultural museum, enabling modern urban dwellers to feel the pulse of Gannan’s enduring civilization.
